Herrington Lake, Kentucky: Welcome to our home

Welcome to Herrington Lake! Sitting in the beautiful Mercer, Garrard and Boyle counties of Kentucky, United States, this 2,335-acre (9 km2) artificial lake is a true gem. Created by Kentucky Utilities' damming of the Dix River in 1925, Herrington Lake was built to generate hydroelectric power and has been providing energy to the region ever since.

Not only is Herrington Lake an important source of power, it also boasts the title of the deepest lake in Kentucky, with a maximum depth of 249 feet (76 m). It's also home to a variety of fish species including bluegill, catfish, crappie, hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, spotted bass, and white bass.

The Dix Dam, which created the lake, was the largest earth-filled dam in the world at the time of its construction and is considered to be a major engineering feat. Today, Kentucky Utilities' main dispatch and communication center is located on the site.
